December2012 306 For The Home Business MumI wanted to write an article today for you – the Home Business Mum.

Mainly because I am a Mum, with six kids, and I know how hard it can be to juggle being a Mum and being a home business owner.

I know from experience with my own family, and from Mums in my team, that there are many, many struggles when trying to build a home based business.

Building a home business can be trying within itself, without the added pressures of managing your family, the household and in some cases your marriage.

But in saying that, it is manageable with a little bit of planning and a lot of perseverance.  You need to know that building a successful home business can be a trial and can test you and your family, especially during the first few years.  This is probably one of the more common reasons Mums give up, because we don’t learn how to manage our time and our families, to fit in with our new venture.

In the early years, in most cases you are excited about your new venture and you so desperately want it to work, but your spouse or partner may not be so enthusiastic.  That is another very common struggle with most Mums and wives that I have come across over the years.

They have put a lot of time into their business and haven’t seen a whole lot of results and their husbands/partners really struggle with the fact that they are spending so much time on something that’s not producing results.

Another common struggle is the fact that our family sees that we are at home, but we are not always available because we are either in the office, on the phone or at our computers.  If your family doesn’t understand that you are actually working, it can make them feel that they are being neglected and that you are always busy with more important things.

If you can, try to get your kids involved in your home business, so they can understand a little what it is that  you do and they will understand that you are actually working and not just on the phone chatting to a friend.

Don’t expect your husband/partner to be involved in your business.  Especially not in the first few years.  You may be one of the lucky ones who have a partner that wants to be involved but most don’t.  The more you try to get them to be involved the more they may resent what you are trying to do.

Eventually, when you start seeing results, your family will thank you for persevering, and will have a new appreciation for what it is that  you do in your home business.

The possibilities it will open up to you and your family will be rewarding enough for you to keep going and keep pressing on with your home business and all the struggles you are facing right now will be worth it sooner than you think.
